The History

In the heart of Theth Valley, surrounded by the Albanian Alps, an old mountain tower slowly transformed through generations of resilience, work, and vision into what today has become the Gjecaj hospitality experience.

What began as a simple alpine shelter in 1922 evolved over time alongside the history of the valley itself — surviving political change, economic hardship, and the isolation of the northern mountains.

In 2007, with only two guest rooms prepared for travelers, the first steps into tourism began. At a time when Theth was still largely undiscovered, a small family hospitality initiative slowly grew through dedication, reinvestment, and a deep connection to the traditions of the Albanian Alps.

Over the years, the property expanded carefully and organically, combining traditional mountain architecture with modern hospitality standards, authentic cuisine, and a strong respect for local identity.

Today, the Gjecaj name represents more than accommodation. It reflects a long-term vision for alpine hospitality in Theth — rooted in authenticity, nature, gastronomy, and the spirit of the mountains.

The story continues.
